Hyperbaric oxygen

A hyperbaric chamber on site, used under medical supervision as part of a protocol.

Medically supervised. Hyperbaric oxygen is delivered under the direction of our medical team as part of a protocol. It is not offered as a treatment for, or a means of curing or reversing, any disease or condition. Nothing on this page is medical advice.

The chamber sits in our clinical area, alongside the consultation desk and the treatment bed. It is a single-occupancy unit with a bed that slides in, a viewing port, and a screen on an articulated arm so a session does not have to be an hour of staring at the ceiling.

What a session is like

You lie down, the chamber is sealed, and pressure is raised slowly. The sensation is the same as a descending aircraft — a fullness in the ears that clears when you swallow or yawn. Staff talk you through equalising, and pressure is held for the prescribed period before being brought down just as gradually.

Pressure and duration are set by the physician. Most guests find the hour uneventful and some fall asleep.

Who it is not for

Untreated pneumothorax is an absolute contraindication. Certain lung conditions, recent ear or sinus surgery, some chemotherapy agents, claustrophobia and uncontrolled fever are all reasons a physician may decline or delay it. Tell us about ear problems and about any recent surgery before you travel.
