The mountain

Twenty acres, ten minutes from the airport.

A walk through the property in the order you would meet it.

The drive up is the first thing that tells you where you are. The airport is ten minutes behind you, Medellín thirty, and then the road narrows and the valley opens and the noise stops.

The Mountains of Hope property seen from the air: houses, pool, courts, gardens and the stone labyrinth, with the Rionegro valley beyond

The whole property from above — houses, pool, courts, gardens and the labyrinth.

The grounds

Nature, silence, pure air

Most of the twenty acres is left as it is. What has been built into it is deliberate and quiet: a stone labyrinth to walk, a temazcal dome at the treeline, lawns wide enough that you can be genuinely alone on them.

The circular stone labyrinth photographed from directly overhead, its pale walking path set into the grass The domed temazcal set in planting at the treeline, with a tiled sun motif laid into the ground in front of it
A wide open lawn running down to the long open-sided pavilion, framed by trees under a bright sky

The water

The circuit

A lap pool with the mountains in front of it, a cold plunge at the end, and the jacuzzi, sauna, steam bath and salt cave around it. Guests use it daily; it is part of the protocol rather than a facility you might get around to.

Where you stay

Twelve rooms and one presidential suite

Timber beams, hand-made lamps, doors that open onto grass. The rooms are quiet and unfussy — they are for sleeping properly, which for a lot of guests is the first thing that has to change.

The presidential suite, a tall open room with a wall of windows, seating area and woven pendant lamps A guest room under exposed timber beams, with a large bed, a woven pendant lamp and doors opening to the garden A twin guest room with two beds, a bench at the foot and glazed doors opening onto grass A guest bathroom with twin stone basins, a woven pendant lamp and a walk-in shower The main living room under carved timber beams, with long sofas, pale wood floors and tall windows The double-height library with built-in bookshelves, armchairs and a woven pendant lamp

And at the end of the day

The light goes and the place changes

Aerial view of the property at dusk, the buildings lit warm against the lawns, with the pool and courts below
The labyrinth in the foreground at night, with the main house lit warm behind it under a deep blue sky A covered terrace with wicker seating, opening straight onto the lawn with palms beyond
The surrounding Rionegro countryside from the air — the property small among fields, woodland and scattered farms

Rionegro, Antioquia — thirty minutes from Medellín.

Come and see it

Photographs are the least of it. The silence is the point.
