Red light therapy

Red and near-infrared light sessions, offered within a protocol set by our medical team.

Red and near-infrared light panels, used in short sessions. Of the frequency-based items on this list, this is the one with the most substantial research behind it — which is not the same as saying the research settles everything.

What a session is like

You sit or stand at a set distance from the panel with the target area uncovered, for ten to twenty minutes. Eye protection is provided and should be worn. There is warmth but no burning sensation; if anything feels hot, move back and tell staff.

Who should check first

Anyone taking photosensitising medication — some antibiotics, some diuretics, isotretinoin, St John's wort and others. Also anyone with a history of skin cancer or melanoma, an active skin lesion, a thyroid condition where the neck would be exposed, or who is pregnant.

The photosensitising medication question is the one most often missed, so bring your list.

No outcome is promised or implied. Mountains of Hope holds a Colombian IPS medical facility licence, and everything here sits inside a protocol set by our medical team.

Whether this is right for you is a medical question.
