Do I need to have any specific experience or background to join a Mountains of Hope wellness retreat?

Absolutely not. We welcome everyone at all levels of their wellness journey. The most important thing for us is that you are a good fit for Mountains of Hope and even more importantly, Mountains of Hope is a good fit for you. What do we mean by this? The staff at Mountains of Hope pours its heart and soul into each guest that attends one of our retreats, therefore it is vitally important for us that we are confident that we are going to be able to assist you in achieving your desired outcome in attending our retreat. And it is for this very reason that we have an application process for you to fill out, prior to being accepted as one of the participants in one of our retreats.

Why is your retreat immersion 16 days?
Real, lasting change takes time. Over the course of 16 days, you have the opportunity to learn how to create an entirely new way of living that serves your highest self. You’ll be immersed in everything that serves your healing and growth. You’ll get to discover how to erase any limiting beliefs you may have about yourself while installing a new belief system that serves your body, mind, heart, and soul. The result is living your life as the best version of yourself. We’re going to show you how to reprogram the cells in your body, so that they may crave good, nutritious food that serves you, and no longer crave foods that cause inflammation that lead to illness. We’re going to teach you how the subconscious mind really works so that you can reprogram it to bring you the life you truly desire in a more effortless way. We are going to assist you in taking the hardest, shortest journey everyone must eventually take, and that is moving from the head to the heart and learning to live from this incredibly powerful place. And while we are in your heart we are going to encourage you to open your heart like never before. And while that heart is open we are going to show you how to heal and bury, for good, any past emotional wounds that no longer serve you. We do all of this powerful work so that when you leave Mountains of Hope and go home, you’re not going to be triggered to go back to the past, to the old habits and the ways of being that don’t serve you. Can you really heal people at this 16-day retreat?

The only person that can heal you is you! And your creator! We have created the systems and protocols that will foster the greatest potential for significant healing and transformation. The intelligence that created the body, heart, mind and soul can heal the body, mind, heart and soul and bring healing to your life. We are just going to be the conduit or the vehicle that helps you get there. 

You are going to experience a unique combination of treatments, nutrition, education, and medical guidance. Our team will help determine your unique path back to wholeness by using our diverse buffet of healing technologies and modalities. Together, we’ll find what works best for you and focus our efforts there.

Additionally, what makes healing at Mountains of Hope so potent is our understanding of how meditation and the power of the mind can be used as your biggest ally. When you stay present, you lose yourself, and you find yourself in the field of infinite possibilities where a healed body already exists, and then you merge that into your current physical reality. Learning to work with the power of your mind is invaluable and Mountains of Hope will create a space to work with these tools and harness the power within you.

How many people will attend the retreat?

Each retreat is limited to 20 participants. You will be in an intimate group with other seekers and travelers from all over the world. Since we have an application process and are committed to making sure there is mutual alignment, each retreat group will have its own energetic signature and synergy amongst each other. Our goal is to create the ideal conditions for connection and vulnerability between people with open minds and open hearts. It’s one of our favorite parts as a team, to see the love and trust that arises naturally when the group shares this amazing experience together.

How much does it cost to attend?

What food options does Mountains of Hope offer?
Because of our amazing climate and soil, most of our vegetables are grown on our property, Mountains of Hope. Basically from Farm to Table. The first week of our retreat is what we call a “Solid Food Vacation”, also known as “Juice Feasting”. So the first week of your retreat you will be drinking amazing, fresh and tasty green juice. As for week two, for those of you who want to continue on this protocol, we strongly encourage this. For those of you who wish to include some solid food we will prepare for you amazing and delicious plant based meals for the rest of your stay. Please note that we are here to serve all of your needs, so please don’t worry about being hungry, we promise you, we will not starve you!
What kind of workshops and practices does Mountains of Hope offer?
We feel that we are an education center as much as we are a detox center. Why? To fully thrive in today’s world, knowledge is power and lack of knowledge is ignorance. And for that reason we spend a lot of effort in teaching you all that you need to know to become super powerful, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. We have one goal for you, and that is this, that the person that arrives day one at MOH departs 16 days later with a new more beautiful and powerful body, a clearer and more powerful mind, a nervous/emotional system that is much calmer and more able to fully love, and a soul that has been reunited with its purpose and is excited to make a huge difference at home and in the world. As a result we have daily two group classes, these classes consist of powerful yoga practices, deep and amazing breathwork classes, powerful meditation classes, and cutting edge movement classes. We have some of the most amazing teachers in the world leading these twice daily group classes. We also have two daily education workshops led by our founder Mike Murphy who is the best selling author of the book The Creation Frequency. During these hour-long sessions we will study the works of Andrea Moritz, the author of The Amazing Liver and Gallbladder Flush, Josh Macin founder of The Detox Dudes, Dr. Robert Young, author of the best-selling book The PH Miracle, along with many other cutting edge physical detox experts. We will also go deep into the work of Dr. Joe Dispenza, Dr. Bruce Lipton, two experts on quantum physics and how to access the infinite field of possibilities where healing and miracles can take place. We will also study the incredible “Work” of Byron Katie and Louise Hay, two experts on the emotional aspect of disease and healing. You will also learn about the ancient healing techniques of medicine men and shamans that were the true healers prior to 1900 and the advent of the current western medicine model. At a certain point, you’ll likely experience a surge of energy as your physical body detoxes and your emotional body opens up. It’s important to have healthy outlets to use this energy. Committing to showing up for practices and workshops will absolutely contribute to your journey of operating at a higher frequency.
Do I need to participate in all of the activities listed on the itinerary?
While you are not required to participate in all of the activities, we do encourage you to do so in order to get the most out of your time here. There is downtime built into each day so that you can have time for yourself and for integration of everything that you’re learning and experiencing. Retreating at Mountains of Hope is a balance of taking time to slow down and heal from the inside, as well as pushing yourself and showing up fully to the practices and modalities that will accelerate your journey.
Will I have time for a massage or other treatments during the Retreat?
Most definitely! There will be time each afternoon for you to make these arrangements. During this time there may be informal conversations or activities going on, but these will also be the best times for you to take advantage of other activities at the resort. You will have massages and treatments built into your personal schedule based on our intake and your health goals. If you find that you’d like to incorporate more treatments into your plan then we can work together to adjust your schedule so you feel the ultimate nourishment!


What should I pack for my retreat at Mountains of Hope?

It’s important to pack smart for your Detox & Wellness retreat. For a relaxing and refreshing stay, here are the “must-haves” we recommend for your packing list:

  • Exercise clothes (bring layers according to season)
  • A hat or sun visor for sunny days on the farm
  • Athletic shoes for indoor workouts and training sessions
  • Outdoor shoes for hiking and walking “El Camino de Miguel” trail
  • Athletic socks
  • Warm layers for evenings and early mornings (based on current seasonal temperatures)
  • Swimsuit
  • Flip flops or sandals
  • A backpack that can be used as a day pack
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Personal toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, etc.)
  • Cell phone/camera
  • Books or tablets for downtime (we also have an extensive library you’re welcome to browse!)
  • Any vitamins or supplements that you take regularly
  • An open mind and heart!



What is detoxing?

Detoxing is a cleansing regimen that eliminates alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes, refined carbohydrates, saturated fats, and processed foods from the diet. Extreme detoxification and calorie restriction may provide initial weight loss, but it requires the correct diet and activity to maintain.


Additionally, as the body has a chance to detoxify from stimulants and processed foods, a key element of the regimen is elimination. The body will naturally extract toxins and through processes such as colema boards and enema, deeper layers of waste removal are possible. Then the body’s capacity for absorbing nutrients and minerals increases significantly.

Why Detox?


When you detox, you rebalance and heal the body, eliminate body-accumulated and environment-accumulated toxins, reduce or eliminate headaches, pains, inflammation, acne, and body fat. As you reduce sugar, caffeine, and refined carbohydrate your cravings will naturally go down as well. This is just the tip of the iceberg of detox benefits.

Detoxifying the body is a natural cleansing process that eliminates cancer-causing free radicals from the system. If you are at risk or have experienced early signs of cancer-like symptoms, a thorough detox is essential to your journey. Even your organs function better when they are detoxed. Your immune system and nutrient absorption improve. You will absolutely think and feel much differently. It’s empowering!

What happens when you detox your body?

Each person’s detox journey will be unique to their own body and set of health circumstances they come in with. It’s normal to encounter distinct symptoms, some of which might be more extreme if your body has accumulated more toxins based on your past habits and environment.


When detoxing, your symptoms may temporarily worsen. This is normal; it’s the body’s natural healing process eliminating poisons from cells. While this is called a ‘detox reaction,’ we prefer to call it a ”healing reaction’ because you feel worse for a few days before feeling better.


These toxins may have been trapped in your cells (liver and gallbladder) for years or even decades. The more poisonous the body or harmful habits accumulated, the more serious the healing reaction. Lungs, skin, liver, and kidneys remove waste but might be overwhelmed.


Remember that a healing discomfort is only temporary, and you’re improving. A healing reaction such as skin rash, body aches, or excessive elimination may feel uncomfortable, but it is temporary and the discomfort indicates that the body is healing. These symptoms may last from 2-5 day and you’ll be supported every step of the way.


This is another reason why we stand by our 14 day protocol. The body needs time to detox adequately. After detoxing the real fun begins and you’ll have the energy required to show up for yourself in new, healthy ways!

What are other signs your body is detoxing?

In a sugar detox your body must break down fats to release energy. This needs to be trained to become stronger, faster, and more efficient, like a muscle. Detox symptoms and weariness may occur in the meanwhile. In addition, your body uses the insulin rise from eating a lot of sugar to generate feel-good neurotransmitters. When you cut sugar, your body makes neurotransmitters more slowly. As your body adjusts, you may experience headaches and mood fluctuations.


Alcohol is sugar. You won’t detox from alcohol unless you’re dependent on it. For the average person, this detox effect is related to neurotransmitters, like in the sugar detox example.


In a caffeine detox, the effects of caffeine on the body and brain are complex. Caffeine lowers cerebral blood flow by constricting blood arteries. Reduced caffeine intake increases blood flow to the brain, making pain receptors more sensitive and causing the characteristic ‘caffeine headache.’ This is also temporary, but may be experienced if you typically consume a lot of caffeine.

I have never done anything like this, is it for me?

You’re not alone! 90% of our clients are new to most, if not all, of what we do and no one has ever walked away unhappy or dissatisfied. We offer a high degree of integrity, physical safety and emotional support which is appreciated by all who stay with us. Again and again, unsure moments are replaced by realizations of just how simple the techniques we use are.

As for whether it is exactly what you want to do, you are a better judge of that. Let me know what you are expecting, wanting and needing from us, and I will do my best to bring clarity to your decision.

I have never fasted or done yoga, I'm overweight and live a city life of stress and toxins. Is this retreat suitable for me ?

You are exactly the kind of person we are used to working with. If you have awareness of just how out of whack modern life has become, and are starting to see yourself fraying at the edges, then you are ready.

Will I be hungry?

In the first 1-2 days of your detox program, it is normal to experience feelings of hunger. However, ingredients in the detox drinks will provide bulk to make you feel full and these hunger pangs will not last. Often, it’s our emotional (not physical) attachment to food that causes hunger!

Will I feel tired during the cleansing?

Feelings of weakness, fatigue, flu and headache like symptoms are all common during the first 2-3 days of any detoxification program as toxins and other waste matter are being excreted from the body. Such symptoms don’t usually last long and once they have passed, you will begin to feel a new sense of energy and vitality while on your program

How should I prepare before juicing/detox?

Preparation is most important to a successful detox experience with minimal discomfort. What you eat before and after detox will influence the detox results and the long-term benefits.

The best way to prepare is to avoid the following for at least 7 days before your detox: All forms of caffeine; tea, coffee, cola drinks, chocolate, white sugar and foods containing sugar, refined carbohydrates such as white bread, white pasta, biscuits, cakes, pastries, noodles, fried foods, red meat, dairy products, alcohol, processed or packaged foods (anything in a jar, packet, box, can, etc.)

Before entering the detox process, you should include plant-based foods in your menu, eat light soups, salads, non-dairy smoothies, gluten-free grains, legumes, raw nuts and seeds, fishes, organic eggs. 

Will I lose weight?

The question regarding how much weight one can lose is a tricky one. Each person responds differently to our treatments. I can give you two extreme examples. One person lost 16 KG in 13 days, averaging more than a Kilo a day whereas there was another person who lost nothing over 9 days. On the average a 10 day weight loss program would shed about 4-7% of one’s overall body weight. However our focus is more on detox.

I am looking forward to losing weight during the fast! How much is normal?

Between 2 and 5kg is the average range, but everyone is unique. The changes you make after your retreat will make a long lasting difference. It is the lifestyle between fasts that create health, not the fasts themselves – these are simply time of special rest and healing.

Can I eat normally after?

The key is to start reintroducing solid foods into your diet slowly after. For the first day or two, eat raw foods like fruits, salads and drink plenty of water and juices. Then add vegetable soup or steamed vegetables during lunch or dinner. After a week, start slowly introducing carbohydrates and proteins such as egg, tofu, fish and chicken back into your diet. Be kind to your body – after all, you have put in so much effort into cleaning it out


Where is Colombia?

It is bordered by the Caribbean Sea to the north, Venezuela to the east, Brazil to the southeast, Ecuador and Peru to the south, the Pacific Ocean to the west and Panama to the northwest 

What language is spoken in Colombia?

The official language of Colombia is Spanish. English is not widely spoken, though it is a bit more prevalent in popular tourist areas. 

Do I need a visa to travel to Colombia?

A visa is not required when traveling as a tourist from Canada or the United States for up to 90 days. Passports must be valid for 6 months from the date of entry. 

What is the temperature/weather like in Rionegro, Colombia?

The climate in Rionegro is comfortable and overcast. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 55°F to 72°F and is rarely below 51°F or above 75°F.


Based on the tourism score, the best times of year to visit Rionegro for warm-weather activities are for the entire month of July and from mid December to mid March.

Do I need any vaccinations to travel here?

Currently, no vaccines are required to gain entry to Colombia. However, if you wish to visit tourist sites such as the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta National Park, the Tayrona National Park or the different Amazon reserves, the Colombia authorities will require that you are properly vaccinated against yellow fever. Remember that this vaccine must be administered at least 10 days prior to traveling to these destinations.

Can I get a direct flight from where I live?

José María Córdova International Airport (MDE) is the second largest airport in Colombia. It is an international airport. In total there are 34 airports around the world that have direct flights to Medellín, spread around 33 cities in 13 countries. Currently, there are 15 domestic flights to Medellín.

Where is Mountains of Hope located?

Mountains of Hope is exclusively located in the gorgeous mountainside of Rionegro, Colombia.  Only 10 min from the JM Cordova International airport (MDE)

How do I get to Mountains of Hope?

Upon arrival at the airport, Mountains of Hope has airport shuttles and can arrange pick up for guests. 

What types of payment are accepted at Mountains of Hope

We accept all major credit and debit cards including Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. We also accept U.S. or Colombian Peso currency.

Can I charge my electronics? Do I need an adaptor? What type of plugs do they have in Colombia?

In Colombia the power plugs and sockets are of type A and B. The standard voltage is 110 V and the standard frequency is 60 Hz. If you are coming from outside the US, you will need an adapter.

Is the water safe to drink?

Colombia has excellent water resources and tap water in bigger cities and mountainous areas is usually safe to drink.

What is your pet policy?

Unfortunately we do not allow any pets in the Resort. We do, however, have a family of sweet dogs that live on the property. They’re a wonderful addition to your retreat experience, especially if you anticipate missing your furry friends back home.

Should I plan on paying gratuity to the employees at Mountains of Hope?

No, gratuities are not expected. The team of health advocates, medical professionals, and auxiliary support staff are generously paid for their services. Mountains of Hope is also a no-tipping resort so you can focus your energy on the process that you’re going through and not be distracted by activities like tipping.

Do I need to be mobile to get around Mountains of Hope

Mountains of Hope is a property that spans across 20 acres. The main facilities are wheelchair accessible, therefore moving around the resort is possible if you have any kind of mobility issues. If you’re able, plan on using your mobility to explore the entire property!

Is there Internet access?

Yes, we have Fiber Optics installed in all rooms and most common areas, with speed and stability ideal for working remotely and long term stays.

Is there laundry service?

Yes, leave your clothes with us in the early morning and you will have them back in the late afternoon. There is a charge.
